I started typing in the chat….
“Some days I feel like I’m doing okay. Other days I feel like I want to run far, far away.”
It wasn’t really a question, but I was hoping my friend Carrie could read between the lines.
It was a Friday afternoon, and Carrie was doing her weekly Instagram Live in her membership community. Like every week, she ended the Live by psychically answering questions.
Typically, I hang back from asking a question, but today was different. I felt adrift at sea. Any sense of feeling grounded had been washed away by a litany of family challenges.
When Carrie got to my question, she began shuffling her deck of oracle cards as she tapped into her intuition. She said…”Dorena you’re working on something big. A project. Are you working on a big project?” I began nodding my head like a bobble head in front of my laptop screen forgetting she couldn’t see me.
For the past month I’d been creating a feng shui quiz that intertwines with a larger book writing project. And it was kicking my butt. Doubt kept interrupting my flow. Are you sure this is a good idea? Is anybody going to take the quiz? Will anyone read the book? Maybe you should take a step back right now. Your family needs you.
And then Carrie pulled two cards from her deck. The first one: You need rest. The second one: This is your life’s purpose.
Yes, I needed rest. And yes, the project was not only a good idea, it was a part of my DNA.
In that moment, I knew I had the courage and the strength to achieve my goals despite the curve balls that life was throwing me. I also knew there were some blocks that needed to be removed, so the pathway to my dreams had fewer potholes.
Intuitively, anytime I want to move my life forward, I make a change in my home.
Our homes are a mirror of our lives. When we shift the energy of one, we shift the energy of the other.
Shortly after Carrie pulled the Life Purpose card for me, I found myself standing on my porch staring at my front door. The rabbits had a party and ate all the flowers in the pot next to my door. The motion sensors on the two light fixtures were more unpredictable than my teenager’s moods. The house numbers were tarnished. And the doorbell looked like I picked it up from the Dollar Store.
It all screamed opportunity.
In feng shui, every area of our home is associated with an area of our life. And my front door is associated with the Career & Life Purpose area of my home. If I wanted an easier path to my dreams than it was time to give my porch a makeover. The first thing I did was order a bench along with a sea turtle pillow to replace my pot of half-eaten flowers. The bench is my reminder that it’s okay to sit and rest along the journey, and the sea turtle symbolizes a life with no stress and a clear path. The next thing I did was order new light fixtures and begin shopping for a new doorbell.
WHAT ABOUT YOU? ARE YOU DOING OKAY?
Or is there an area of your life that feels like you just stepped in gum? Where doubt is trying to intercept your dreams.
If so, use your home as an opportunity to believe in your strength, your courage, and your wisdom.
Here are 3 questions to get you started:
1. Do you have anything in your home that is broken or not working? If so, make a plan to either fix it or let it go. Broken things have stagnant energy that will block the flow of energy in your home.
2. Do you have any areas of clutter in your home? If so, pick the area that is most grabbing your attention, and set aside some time to tackle it. Clutter is things that you don’t love, need or use. They too block the flow of energy in your home.
3. Are there things in your home that you feel like you “should” keep out of guilt or obligation? The energy of should is never one of strength or courage. Can you give yourself permission to only fill your home with things that bring you joy?
Here’s to standing in your strength and following your dreams.
