It was 5:30am. I picked up my phone to turn off the alarm and saw the text.
“I would like you to consider.”
Followed by a series of accusations.
After decades of being divorced and years of deep, inner-healing work, I found myself ricocheted back in time by my ex-husband.
Rather than laughing the text off like my sleepy husband who I had just woken up, I was in tears. And quickly on a train to visit my 24-year old self who trusted other people more than she trusted herself.
It didn’t take long to realize that this situation required some extra TLC. I put a call into my old therapist.
After catching her up on the past 13 years, she asked me,
“Dorena, what can you do in your home?
She knew my feng shui and space clearing work.
She understood that what was going on in my life was being mirrored in my home. And if I shifted the energy in my home, then it would shift the energy in my life.
Since my self-awareness had just taken a sideways blow, she wanted to know what room in our home was associated with the energy of our intuition and self-awareness.
My garage.
Not the easiest space to work my magic in.
I saw myself throw up my hands and then begin the litany of reasons why changing anything in our garage was futile.
Resistance is better than a billboard on the Jersey turnpike! It tells us exactly what exit to get off for the best diner.
Knowing this, I unlocked my brain and began scanning my garage in my mind. What could I actually change that was going to make a difference?
Husband’s tools?
Nope.
Son’s baseball equipment?
Nope.
Bikes?
Nope.
Gardening tools?
Nope.
AND THEN I HAD AN EPIPHANY.
I whispered to my therapist that I could clean the garage door windows. Windows that I hadn’t touched in 15 years.
In feng shui, windows are the “eyes of the house.”
When you’re yearning for clarity, checking that your windows are working properly and are clear is a must do.
In my case, I very quickly discovered that my windows were a hot mess! Even though I look at my garage windows dozens of times every single day, I hadn’t noticed that they were covered in dust and cobwebs.
I was struggling with letting other people’s opinions cloud my own intuition and self-knowledge. That one text sling shotted me back 30 years.
With my new awareness of how my home was mirroring my life, I grabbed my bottle of Windex and spent the next 10 minutes cleaning each windowpane.
When I was done, I stood in awe at the difference my cleaning had made. The windows were so bright and clear. And I was giddy with how good it felt to see through the windows.
And for those of you who’ve worked with me, you know that’s not the end of the story.
When we shift the energy in our homes, we shift the energy in our lives.
Following my window clearing, it felt like blinders were removed. Awareness replaced doubt. Compassion replaced anger. Information replaced questions.
THE MORAL OF MY STORY.
Check your windows!
Are they working properly? Do they open and close with ease? Or are some stubborn and tricky to open?
Are they clean? Or like mine, are they covered in cobwebs and dust?
It doesn’t need to take a lot of time. A little bit of Windex, and you too can find clarity in less time than it takes to decide which Netflix show to binge next. (I just saw that the fourth season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel just landed. So that’s next on my list!)
Sending you lots of love..and clarity,
xoxo
